That Zubi pass over the top outside of the boot. Marvellous.
That was a lovely pass by Zubi. Nice to see us playing some creative stuff.

Odegaard's pass to MLS was Fabregas-esque... if MLS just first time clips it to the back post that is a sitter for Martinelli.

I thought Viktor had a really good game despite not getting on the scoresheet. He battled relentlessly and did some good stuff.

Merino's header absolutely superb.

This is why on offsides they usually let play continue til the end of the phase. I get annoyed by that but have to admit it's what they should do in case the offside call is wrong. The same should be done for penalties (on pens play is usually dead immediately anyway but not always like in our case).

I think it’s worth pointing out, if the 8-second rule isn’t introduced (and enforced, unlike the prior 6 second rule), that doesn’t happen. It’s subtly changing the game, I think for the better.

Fun to see rivals downplaying the result as it’s ”only 15th placed Newcastle”.

The same Newcastle that during the game and prematch the stats were all about their 4 clean sheets, best defence in the league, only lost when down to 10 men.

Let them change the narrative to corner FC and Pulisball, blah blah. This team is going places. If it wasn’t for Pope MOTM this would have been a whooping.

In and out in under 20 minutes, not bad.
ballsy @ 09:49 | Sep 29, 2025
I'm still buzzing from yesterday's win. I was heavily emotionally invested in this match. I cannot explain how annoyed I was becoming with the dishonest Newcastle fans singing 'same old Arsenal, always cheating' as their own players were literally being spoken to time and again by the ref. I watched about 10 minutes of full time footage in the hope of catching some fat-faced Geordies crying on their way out. Man, I fucking hate Newcastle fans.

Speaking of the ref, he seemed determined not to punish Newcastle players for anything, and overturning the penalty was an absolute joke:1. It's not clear and obvious 2. Pope cleared Vic out, even if he did get a touch, which despite the replays no one is 100% sure he did 3. He was a cunt.

Joe Linton seems to get carte blanche to assault Arsenal players on the regular, and should have had a yellow in the 2nd minute for his foul on Saka. They test the water early, get away with it, then wind Arsenal players up with constant fouling for the rest of the game.

So, so, so happy for the win. Fuck Newcastle, and Joe Linton in particular.

COYG!!
paulo @ 09:43 | Sep 29, 2025
Right, Arsenal should be asking for accountability in refs! Gillet shouldn't be involved with Arsenal games ever again and Darren England should becsent to the lower leagues. (I refuse to go on BlueSky - its almost pure poison, just as bad anything ever was on X/Twitter)

Almost identical moves from the goalie in the Mbuemo and Gyökeres incidents and yet Gallagher can stand there and say that one goalie pulls out of the challenge and one follows through. I mean, this bias is so deeply rooted they don't even seem to be aware how blatant it is. In any case, champions make sure a game is not decided by such decisions. That's the mark of a serious team.

I don’t blame Newcastle for playing like that, but I do blame PGMOL for allowing it. It is their actual job to police the game. But just like with some Wenger teams, there’s a notion that lesser teams can kick, slap, stamp and foul their way around the pitch to even it up.

The difference is that this team can stand up to it.

Dinner was served here about half way through the first half, important sports events are the only thing that allows the TV to be on while the family eats. At different points both the girls looked up and laughed in shock, and asked me why there was a man with blonde hair but a strange brown moustache.

"He's German, it's normal there" I replied curtly (we were 1-0 down at the time)

Well, this is the part of the schedule we were looking at as a chance to go on a good run after the tough start to the season. A lot of winnable matches coming now.
The schedule does look friendlier than our first 7 weeks.
now Mik has the chance to rotate in a few players without disrupting the core team. Nwaneri wasn’t even on the bench yesterday. This squad is strong enough now that these teenagers can be brought in without the pressure of overloading or overburdening. They’ll all get their share of game time.

No room for cockiness or complacency- just keep getting the job done.
fjuk @ 08:32 | Sep 29, 2025
Totally getting that the ref whistled on the Goykeres incident. Had he not done that, Saka seemed to be in for - if not a tap-in, then a 'big chance' [TM].
So... The ref thought (rightfully) it was a penalty, someone stopped his decision, and a following advantage to Arsenal was cancelled out by the stop in play. What a mess!

Good point - something people don't consider when it comes to VAR. On MOTD they said it wasn't just Pope touching the ball, it was also that he didn't make a movement towards Gyok... whatever.

First time coming back from a losing position to win since Jan, which for me is a big sign. We looked different from the off. We have a sniff, assuming we don't suffer 23 injuries

So many great individual performances and show of character. But the player who on reflection was better than it felt at the time was Gyökeres. The pen should have stood, though Saka might have took it. He had a couple of half chances seemed a bit slow to react. But he worked that defence throughout and to do that physically given the size the aggression and the pass they seem to get from refs and you have a monumental physical effort and I hope he gets his reward with goals in the next few games. Just a top performance, statement win as Saka said. We’re all set… and we’ve got our captain back!

Well in Hazza! Well played blogs, an excellent assessment. What a glorious way to win and shut those Geordie Orcs up.

Scoring late goals seems to be a bit of a habit of late. Not too good for the old nerves, but I love the fact that the lads are fighting to the very last second.

I agree regrading the manhandling of our CF and was concerned how much Gyok was getting thrown around, especially for a lad of his stature. Clearly much of it was foul play but I want him to chuck some around too, it felt like the ref was letting them resolve matters rather than going to the whistle every time.

RE the reversed penalty decision plus a multitude of other examples: VAR is a pathetic joke, the inconsistency in application is worse than the fallibility of "real-time" in-game human error. PGMOL must admit it is a failure and bin it altogether. Utterly Shambolic farce.
