It’s a long season, so many variable. What I can say for sure is I’ve never been as satisfied about an Arsenal squad. The feeling is like when Wenger was bringing Suker in and covering right-back with Luzhny. It sounds a weird comparison but at the time those positions needed to be covered and he got them straight away. Then he brought in Pires for Overmars and Henry for Anelka. He was so on it in those days. Arteta has got his wish and so have we. A lot of football to come but I’m so pumped for Sunday. I’ll be back in England and ready to see what this magnificent squad can do. 10/10 window congratulations to The Boss, to the Don and to the Bank that funded it all. Let’s go!

Arteta has spoken frequently about wanting a larger squad, and he now has one. I think the injuries, especially those last season, haunted him a bit.

We're already seeing him utilise that larger squad, partly due to injuries and partly due to managing player minutes.

Many of us have been wanting him to do this, and it appears, perhaps for the first time, that he has a squad where he feels he can genuinely do so.
gooder @ 20:18 | Aug 26, 2025
It's going to be fascinating to see how Arteta allocates enough minutes to all these players to keep them happy. A good problem to have but not one he's had to manage before.

heh, well now we HAVE to buy him. can't have Liverpool beefing up their defense.

I wouldn't put much weight in their interest though. as long as their Isak chase remains on their resources would have to be running pretty thin.

“Oooh, no, missus! What’s this I see on the replay? The centre-back’s got both arms wrapped round the striker – ooooh, saucy! You can’t do that here, not in front of everybody! I mean, what would the vicar say? It’s illegal, yes, yes, naughty boy! So, regretfully – oh, don’t laugh – I’m overturning my decision… yes, yes, I’m giving the penalty! Oooh, it’s all coming out now!”

If we had a very young, talented, fit, motivated, balanced, and full squad, then I'd agree. There will be a choice of churn or atrophy, the further away a club is from that ideal.
We needed tweaks to the first team, and major augmentation to the squad. The fuller the squad, the more rotation, the less likely stress injuries occur, and it will also reduce fatigue-related mistakes.

I assume, the next couple of years will mean smaller tweaks will be required - if it all works out.

I can see where you're coming from. I think there's an optimum number of signings you can make in a single transfer window. Not saying we should go back to the days of bringing in one guy (and it being Petr Cech), but seven or eight seems an unwieldy number of players to integrate in a short space of time. Unless of course we have a specialist coach for that.

Let’s get the right squad first and then keep them. We have a core group of England players now, most from the club youth, others like Rice from London. The big players coming in like Gyökeres want to play for Arsenal. It’s never ideal this many signings but it feels absolutely necessary. I always dreamed of such a revamp, and built already on serious change after some dodgy and incompetent previous directors of football. This is a transformation and I’m all for it… AND I miss Highbury too and wish they hadn’t turned it into flats. But we are where we are, this is revolutionary. You do want Arsenal to win, don’t you?

I wasn’t sure about him at the start but I agree a model professional and a decent defender. I always felt he lacked personality though a bit too humble. He saved us after Gabriel’s absence. This appears to me what you have to do with good backup players. If they are good enough to start in most teams then they will, for the most part, want to test themselves. So we sell him and get Hincapie in and rotate the backups every couple of seasons. Ferguson did this for years. Eventually the starters will need replacing and hopefully you have a ready made replacement waiting in the wings. And if one of these guys really explodes and is worthy of replacing one of the starters then you sell the current incumbent for £150m.

That's it, you basically want PL clubs to be interested. As I understand it, Kiwior was not interested in staying in England. Which considering he is Polish, says a lot about the decline in the once glorious Brittania :)

Today on the Moral Maze: How many players can you buy in a single transfer window without straying into Chelsea/City 'buying the title' territory?

Difference being that they were English players sold to English clubs, I guess.

We haven't done so well with overseas players and overseas clubs.
Does feel a bit like we've been too stubborn on the whole. So many of the players we are looking to sell have major issues and when you look at someone like Vieira, having cost like £24m, you can't expect anyone to have watched the last few years to pay that. Looks like we're making a small profit on Kiwior which...yeah he's had a small profit sort of time here. Ofc we don't know anything about how discussions have gone so...

Basically no team does well selling overpaid or injury prone lads they obviously want rid of and thats often been a large % of who we need to sell.

Mosquera has already shown he can be solid on the right. I agree about left side. Calafiori’s great for our attack but is waiting to be skinned by Salah.

Deep down I hope for Salah to be their Walcott / Özil / Auba / Adebayor - playing out of his skin at contrat time, then falling away like a wet lettuce once the wealth is secured.

Had you heard of Mosquera? I hadn’t, but as soon as he came on pre-season I knew we’d found a gem. Hincapié from the reels looks good. Strong, dynamic, great left-foot delivery. My trust has grown exponentially. We have a serious director of football now.

Also saw us linked to Spanish fullback Arnau Martinez from Girona in a cheaper deal.... of €10M. But the source is iffy.

But if it is true, does that mean Ben White is injured for a longer period than expected?

The rotting in the reserves thing won't happen. While it wouldn't hurt them financially immediately, they'd still have a striker they can't play, keep all the bad publicity going and most likely end up in a constructive dismissal court case. If they keep him, he'll most likely sign a contract with a release clause next Summer and play for the rest of the season like nothing happened.

The ref announcing decisions on a headphone mike should be banned just so we don’t have to hear another overweight ref panting and breathing heavily while blurting out a decision! I guess it’s meant to keep fans informed in the moment, but I agree it’s quiz show contestant entertainment fluff that should never have happened.

And Anthony Gordon will serve his ban and be ready to join his band of Orcs as they try to decapitate every Arsenal player when we meet them. They did so well to come back, but as soon as I saw 11 minutes it felt inevitable. Elanga played well but was hopeless tracking back for Liverpool’s winner. It’s down to us now. Game on!
