Great result not great performance again I thought Leeds were terrible they can’t play a low block. The injuries were bad news we have lost our two best players in two weeks and and also lost kai and Nords. Had this been any other season these injuries would be fatal especially going anfield but now we can play Noni for Saka and Eze for Ode and I would play martineli as we are away and he defends well. Dowman is going to be a legend first time I have seen him a bit nervous and great feet for the penalty.

Meh... Different captains exude different attributes.

You don't need to be a vocal captain to be a good captain a.l.a Tony Adams.

Look at Paddy Vieira. He was never vocal and his football did his talking. He had other players to do all that stuff.

Any pundit or journo criticising Dowman for the penalty needs a memory jog, as a young English lad one of the players he must have looked up to was someone who carried out more simulations than Deep Blue. And as they used to say, "it was intelligent play by the England captain".

Torn hamstring recovery time varies significantly with severity: a mild Grade 1 tear may heal in a few days to a week, a partial Grade 2 tear can take several weeks to a few months, and a severe Grade 3 tear can require three months or more of recovery, possibly involving surgery.

Taking away the grudge aspect, I find Spurs somewhat interesting. Their sides usually some have decent fundamentals but a striking imbalance in positional creativity.

I very much enjoy their historical over-investment in CDMs and recent punts on lowly attacking players. Not a coincidence they were at their best when they had a very good CAM (i.e. an in-form Eriksen) behind Son and Kane.

Their strike force during the Bale/Modrić/van der Vaart era was wonderfully average. Improved their squad appreciably during that era but completely failed to address the vacuum Berbatov left up top.

Difficult to gauge them yet. Burnley will prove to be awful, I'm sure, and City have been off their game for over a year now. I think Guardiola has lost his mojo.

We know that Frank is a good coach and that they will be a lot better than last year. They lack a goalscorer, though, and the midfield isn't top drawer. I think they'll be around sixth at the end of the season.

A friend of mine who i shared a house with in college went the same way last year. Only 55, shocking.
I thought i was being funny by walking into A&E and saying i felt tightness in my chest as an excuse to miss an all-staff meeting. My colleague had been urging me to get checked up. I wasn't bothered at all and was actually laughing as i told the same colleague to give my apologies as i was off to A&E.
I was rather shocked to be told there were irregularities with my blood test. I queried what "irregularities " and was told my troponin levels were raised. I knew this is an indicator of having had a heart attack.

This was confirmed after several more tests.

I was taken aback as i had felt no pain and bi breathlessness and walked iver 9 miles a day.

I decided i needed to lose about 2 stone to reduce my risk and take statins.

It certainly was wake-up call.

It just shows it's worth taking the piss.

Seriously, i was majorly pussed off. Never smoked. Drink well within guidelines. Weight was above recommended BMI, butmost of it was muscle- but was causing my blood pressure to be high.

Yeah, now being more sensible.

Having said that, it's a bad week to give up sniffing glue

I'm sure there is an understanding about what is needed to maximise his potential. Arteta and Berta aren't neophytes. They will have a detailed plan that will be tweaked as it progresses. Unfortunately, Havertz's injury has meant there'll be rather more tweaks.

We are in a good place. We just need to see how we use our squad.

“He’s not a great player”. Quite a few were saying this before as well as the concerns about the relative ease of the Portuguese league. Haaland does very little off the ball but his strength and bullying has been immense. Gyökeres has to be this kind of player. When I saw Šeško come on he seemed to glide across the pitch. I can’t hide my anxiety right now that we have bought the wrong striker. I’ll have to channel my inner Berta who I’m sure has no such anxiety even though it looks to have been his call over Arteta’s.

Just score Vik, and have a blinder, put us all at ease

I think the title of today’s blog summed it up nicely. ‘Service’ for Gyokeres.
Didn’t think anyone played particularly well against Utd. If someone had never watched us before…they’d probably say Saka looked out of his depth too.
It wasn’t a great performance and I thought we were lucky with the goal. Cunha ran circles around us.
Let’s hope today is better by a long way. I really hate dirty Leeds. So come on you gunners!

northbankfc @ 08:14 | Aug 23, 2025
It’s interesting to me, my eldest nephew, who is Arsenal mad, plays and watches a lot of football, reckons Gyökeres looked out of his depth against Utd. I wouldn’t go that far but I did think he was affected by the occasion though he worked hard I thought, and I didn’t like that Arteta took him off for Havertz (which in the presser he implied was for tactical reasons as much as tiredness). With Havertz injured there will be no obstacles (unless Arteta subs him for Merino, which really will dent his confidence). Strikers more than any other player thrive in confidence. With the creativity in our team, at home, he has to get on the score sheet. That header against Bilbao was superb. I believe in him and I think Eze will be the perfect foil for him too. But today is the day for him. The fanbase is willing him on.

I sincerely hope it’s service for Gyökeres rather than taxi for Gyökeres.

As ever, the reaction to the reactions to key players’ performances can be as understated as those social media comments can be understated.

He didn’t get much service, but when he did receive the ball he looked a bit wooden and slow. The most embarrassing moment was when he had space and time, tried to cut in from the left, and left the ball behind.

I wanted him at Arsenal as much as anyone and I’m desperate for him to succeed, for our league chances and as also to justify my contention that a pure, physical goalscorer will complete this team.

I’m hoping what I’ve seen so far can be put down to fitness and a few nerves. But first impressions in an Arsenal shirt is that he looks slow and cumbersome. Eeek!

The extreme nature of the social media comments aside, there’s no smoke without fire. And to invert that analogy, I hope Big Vik catches fire today on his home debut.

Come on Vik, it’s now or never!
