"all these changes"
Of the 11 players in our starting line up for Old Trafford 9 will be from our starting squad from last season, maybe even 10.

We've added a lot but our key personnel are still in there. zubimendi is the key question. If he can hit the ground running we should be in good shape.

In any case I'm at least going to see how our tough start goes before getting too worked up.

As exciting as it is to have all these new component parts, the reality is that it can take quite a while (maybe as much as half a season) for any manager to find his best personel/system before the team really starts 'purring'.

It's totally unrealistic to expect it to 'gell' straight away but we all know that in this League, 3 losses probably means that the Title is gone.

I'm not getting excuses in early but flip side of all these changes is that we have a much less settled squad than Scunts and ¢115y. By the time we find our rhythm we could be chasing just CL qualification as far as the League is concerned.

Alongside those who get angry and extreme in their criticism are those who tweet to dismiss any concerns and pretend today was nothing to be worried about. We had several players missing, but I do worry about Arteta's methods and if Martinelli and Ødegaard are starting the season I'm going to be a bit worried. Two weeks to make a radical change.

On two occasions he needed to play in Gyokeres. Maybe just rushed the decision but I’m sure he’ll go back and analyze. He looks very serious out there. Love it.

He looked spritely today, but seems to be overthinking things. I’d like to see him dictate a little more, pass then get it back again… no more than one or two touches again.
I also think the set-up of the team didn’t help him.
I just want to see a holding 6, that holds, and two 8s that are close (ie not wide like Rice was today). It was really hard to see the shape in the first half today and that’s on Arteta.

I know it’s preseason but It was very similar to last season. What really concerns me is Ode.. He is the one slowing us down and everything seems to go through him. As for Nelson, I will never understand. Looks great in preseason and in all games that don’t matter. Once it’s PL, he just lacks conviction and confidence in himself.

heh... but he should've known that before he signed with them. The optimist in me hopes this is why they aren't strengthening as much Isak would like, because players are getting wise to them and don't want to go there.

I think the criticisms of Ødegaard are entirely fair. This is not just something he did in pre-season but for the rest of the season after his injury/illness. The moves keep breaking down with him. We need him to be a lot better, and for that he has to train like a madman, because he's nowhere near being fit/strong enough to ride the challenges to get into space. I think Eze/Madueke could be taking two places.

If people say Reiss was better than Trossard and Martinelli, that tells you everything about those two. Saka looks off the pace, but you can see he'll improve. Gyökeres, I'm glad he's here, but he needs players to beat their man and get him running onto balls. Didn't see enough of Zubimendi. It's just a warm-up, not concerned either. We have the personnel, Arteta just has to adapt quickly to get the best out of them.

Rice was so wide for the whole first half. Martinelli - what to say?
Zinchenko still getting game time.

I think he will too…today was a foul but the underlying issue remains..

He plays unnecessarily risky passes. Saka was very free. I think it’s become one those things where you’re supposed to be confident enough to do it if you need to, but he now does it when it’s not necessary. I was concerned about this last season.. he needs to sort it out.

Nørgaard has been the stand-out for me and both Ben White and MLS were solid. This game cries out for Zubimendi (for Rice), Nwaneri (for Ødegaard) and Gyökeres (for Havertz). With Dowman for Saka that gives the crowd what they paid for and us a look at our future first team.

His sheer strength of body and of character is going to give the other players so much more room to do their work and their class will in turn give him the space to run and do his thing which is score goals. That's how I see it and have always seen it with my years long desire for a muscular, aggressive, one-focused goalscorer. Let's see if it translates into reality.

I'm genuinely relaxed about it in a way I haven't been. I agree that No 10 has Eze's name on it and personally I see a front three of Eze, Gyökeres and Saka as the most exciting attack we can get, teams will not know who to pick up, they'll be weaving in and out and creating space for each other with their combined strength, skill and running. It's a mouthwatering prospect.

Very happy with all the players we’ve signed but Eze would be my favourite if it did happen. I think he would slot right in and we’d no longer have a ‘missing piece’ to the jigsaw.

I was looking at Xhaka being unveiled at Sunderland and couldn’t help think, that had he stayed one more season, we might well have won the premiership then. We had almost everything.

Message to Berta. Get Eze. Give Palace what they want. Do it before Liverpool go in for Guehi.

He's just really, really serious, exudes gravitas. There was a great piece I saw from some young podcaster who said that Berta has established himself especially with the Gyökeres deal as someone who can match Arteta and play the role that Arteta needs of a sporting director. Arteta is data and statistics, Berta is more about a certain outlook and attitude. He's taken a risk going all in for Viktor. If it works, we have a perfect combination managing the club.
