Heh. And don't forget to make sure you get your prescription from painkillers.
I got an inguinal hernia operation about twenty years ago. Got home once released form hospital. After a day or so began to be in agony.
Realised I had not been prescribed anything. Called the surgeon, unfortunately he was not in his office 800m from me (which was already a struggle anyway), so I had to go back to the hospital (not a lot of extra walking but some public transport - recommendation post-op do not take public transport or cars for a bit) to see him and get my efferalgan codéiné and prescription. I think that walk may have been the most physical pain I've ever had in my life.

I was listening to the Arsecast Extra bit about Nwaneri.
I have to say that the kid's got some balls if he thinks the club shouldn't sign anyone in his position(s). We obviously have to go into next season with more players up top than we did last. Perhaps a loan wouldn't be a bad idea. He's only fucking 18.

Blogs' argument against buying Rodrygo has been that he's not a significant enough upgrade on Martinelli for the price but €78 might just be low enough to change his mind.

but, as you alluded to, I suspect it is indeed £, not €, and Madrid will demand a hell of a lot more than that, especially if it's a face-off between some or all of us, Liverpool, ¢115eh, QSG, Bayern... If the media are to be believed (they're not) then everyone except Stoke "have made contact".

Speed. We need to add speed, in addition to the other qualities we look for in a player. And we need two or three players with speed. We are no longer smurfs who get trampled but we can be run away from, see PSG. Yeah, I know that we pummelled them early in the season with our fresher legs and bulk overpowering them. It has been typical of us to wear down over the course of a season and be plodding by March. So, the solutions are more team speed and more rotation to maintain the speed of everyone through all the competitives.

A little Bergkampesque nastiness would also be welcome too.

I think I probably need to retire but I have to work for another 15 years or so (until the law changes again).
More big bosses being changed, think the Americans may be taking over our part of the business after the previous failed attempt.
And even in my team, within the next couple of years, the last two people who were there when I joined will have retired.
I've been getting the feeling that the boss' attitude has also changed within the last couple of years, like he doesn't really care so much any more about the team.
Struggling with the motivation when everything is so disorganised and I am currently well underworked.
No idea what I could do next though, where, how, etc.
Something might have to give within the next couple of years, and I possibly have to start thinking about it. If only I even had a clue what to do...oh well.
First, full focus still on getting fit again, I guess.

We didn't buy them so they haven't cost us anything. Indeed, we made a tidy profit on Nketiah as we did with Iwobi. It happens.

They're not the same as buying in players for good money who then disappoint.

But for one reason or another he didn't. We just don't want another one of those "is he, isn't he?" on our books. I'm tired of arguing a player's a flop a year or two before the club and some fans accept the inevitable. Pepe, Reiss-Nelson, Nketiah, Vieira. Too many. No reason why it should. If we're building a squad then players have to understand that they won't play all the time. We complain when players are overextended so this should help rectify things in that area.

I know, right? That seems to be the consensus among us fans. Now I'm hearing about talks with Nwaneri being in a "delicate" stage due to the player's concerns about playing time. It's all very unnerving.
robm @ 10:30 | Jul 8, 2025
I think there's a certain value in a signing coming from another premier league club. All players require acclimatisation into a new club and system but for someone like Madueke or Nordguard it should just be a couple of practice sessions with the team and a quick reminder to use the right dressing room on certain matchdays.
shrek2be @ 10:30 | Jul 8, 2025
By the way, I heard the latest Arsecast and could really understand James' frustration about the Partey situation. I can see how much a football club means so much to someone who is born and raised there and supported the club from their childhood, feels so let down by the club.

Kudos to Andrew and James for discussing the issue as well as they could about this horrible situation.

"Madueke is way better than you lot understand or give him credit to be." Much like your insistence on Pepe's quality long after it became clear he was not making it as an Arsenal player, the individual quality of the player is not as important as whether they acclimatise to the club and the needs of the team and manager. Some players are that good they ease past all of that. But some players you can see the quality but you don't know whether they will step up. I sense that with Madueke. I can see his quality on a good day. But £50m on an understudy to Saka? Seems a huge expenditure in light of Arteta's desire to be disciplined in the transfer market. So far, they've been true to their word. On these next couple of signings rests the whole season. We have to be spot on!

If Ben White hadn't been injured for so long, I think Timber would have been rested more. Hopefully Mosquera will give Saliba a rest now and then. Up front, Gyökeres and Eze will give Havertz and Ødegaard a rest and - presuming Madueke goes through, that gives Saka breathing space too. Arteta was hampered in his squad rotation by a truly horrendous injury list. Let's hope for a lot better this season.

Madueke is fine as a backup but not as a £50M backup. The other thing is Arteta simply doesn't rotate his players. This resulted in the likes of Havertz, Gabriel, Saliba, Saka, Rice,Timber being overplayed to death and resulting in surgeries for 4 of them. He has to change something now.

I could be way off, but is the Madueke signing so that later in a game Saka can be rested or can move central/left to mix things up more and make us less predictable. Towards the end of the season he drifted out of position more. If we signed Eze it would give us great options, as he could be the extra creativity in middle or wide, if Martinelli not working. Eze in the left 8 at times, could unlock Martinelli. Rice will need minutes reduced when possible, as he can’t keep that energy level up year on year out without a bad injury. I’m very excited at all the selection possibilities if Eze signs.

In one of the tactical analyses, they mentioned the similarity. I love that kind of aggression the way he forces his way through crowded areas and can eat up space and is so focused on his finishes. I think he'll open up so much space for Ødegaard ahead of him as Zubimendi will create space behind him. This is great for Ødegaard if he's ready to step up. All presuming of course that we get the player!

I think that's a big part of the changes and I welcome it. Berta speed dates players and agents. Edu wants to go all in on the first person he sees for a position.

I can respect both approaches but I think with Berta we won't get to the end of a transfer window with two bad loans and a gaping hole in one position.

The impression I'm getting is that Berta is operating at a very professional level, multi-tasking, seen to be playing clubs and players off against each other. It's a far cry from Edu's BBQs and strange over-familiar videos. the main impression was that Edu would put his eggs in one basket, spend a lot of time on a player only to be let down and to let down the club and fans. These are just impressions. Berta looks a serious operator. We'll see over the next few days. Maybe the Madueke deal is a stalking horse for Rodrygo. Let's just get Gyökeres and Eze and as Blogs said, the Madueke deal becomes a lot more palatable after those two sensational buys.

Having Maduke as a back-up option that's ready to tie up if necessary would seem to fit Berta's modus operandi, but if for arguments sake, Rodrygo was bought with Martinelli sold (as Ornstein suggested would be necessary), then Nwaneri is Saka's back-up which doesn't seen too shabby to me, except we lose our only really fast player.

The concern with the Madueke deal is with all the other pending deals it takes spending to over £200m. How much wriggle room is there after that?

Feels reminiscent of when we had gaping holes in the forward line last year but instead put £45m down on a left back. A nice to have but not a necessity. That game changer on the left side of the pitch is far more important
