I can't help but laugh when commentators talk about our red card quantity like it's a disciplinary problem. Have you guys not been watching? Some of our reds were disciplinary, certainly, (Merino was reckless, even if he was grasping a bit after being knocked down) but if our only reds were disciplinary we'd have no more than anyone else... instead of double or triple that of most teams

A lot of things we do allow opponents to get back into formation.

We need numbers in midfield next season and Merino is just that. When Havertz isn’t a CF, he’s of no use to us in tough fixtures. He invariably drifts into false 9 positions, placing an inordinate burden of creativity and ball progression on our midfield.
It also leaves us vulnerable to opposition transitions. We saw this against Villa last season and Palace away this season.

If Arteta was to leave tomorrow and there is that level of unease, there’s definitely not much faith in the board. To be fair, maybe some of the ire given to MA this season should be redirected… insanely awful transfer windows and, to his credit, I think James McNicholas lifted the veil on this somewhat in January.

This is the first season during Arteta's tenure where I feel that there has been significant underperformance in the league. The first two seasons or so he had to overhaul what was a failing enterprise; since then we have twice pushed a club owned by a nation-state so close it hurts.
This season has been a little underwhelming and there have been several factors, Injuries and bizarre decisions by referees and VAR are two of them. There has also been incompetence in transfer dealings that left the squad without sufficient depth in the forwards. Whether this is down to the board or Arteta, or both, we will not know until the memoirs are written. If this is not addressed over the summer (as it should have been last summer) then I'm sure there will be merry hell.
It seems somewhat churlish to moan when there have been spectacular highlights such as the drubbing of both Real Madrid and Manchester City. Arteta has set himself high standards, though, and I suppose we have got used to those.
I really hope he wins one of the big prizes next year as he deserves it. We are where we are now in very large part thanks to him and the culture he has created.

I was following the Arseblog live for the first half, but at half time, Mrs Collibosher called me for dinner. I put the game out of my mind and came back to check the score at around 6:30pm. 2-2! I was pleasantly shocked. Maybe the team talk at half time was about waking the players up, and reminding them of how good they are. Maybe Mikel had stolen Fergie's old hair dryer. I'm glad that, by many accounts, GM11 was our best player on the day. I hope that means that our Duracell Bunny has his mojo back, because he is prepared to sweat blood for the team.

Only here so early because I woke up middle of the night. Was having nightmare of some dystopian future where I had to get some documents from a company office building related to my lawyer job but it deteriorated from regular meeting to trying to escape being killed by a psycho security guard to trying and failing to use a maddeningly confusing dystopian elevator system to go back to the floor where I left my navy blazer on a chair. I mean it’s a perfectly cromulent blazer but was it worth risking my life?? Then I woke up and realized the humidifier cartridge in my CPAP machine has worn out making my throat dry as an empty Spuds trophy case. Hope the day gets better from here.
