I don't think they're falling in line now, I think they considered it falling in line when they implemented some polices to begin with. 'Making do' in attack is hardly the instantiation of ambition. Again, Jesus, Trossard and Willian the sum total of the club's purposive investment there over the last half decade.
There is obviously a well-entrenched fear or reluctance to address that issue. A failed #8 and inconsistent finisher should not be your de facto CF after 5 years.

Offer enough money and your targets will become available
Surely a player who can put the ball in the net is suitable for our needs. 19 other premiership clubs somehow managed to get more than 1 of those.
Price? What the hell are we supposed to do with the money generated from tickets, merchandise and commercials?
Indecision, too cautious etc simply points to unwillingness to get a striker because? No ambitions.
We had to wait for Villa to sell Duran then suddenly discovered Watkins suits us in January? Then we get turned down and want fans to wallow in pity. No thank you.
This club has no winning ambitions and it's clear for all to see

My blame also goes to the Kroenkes. Do they care about this club as much as their US franchises, particularly the LA Rams? It's hard not to think they prioritise that investment over the Arsenal.
And...
I think the Kroenkes and the rest of our upper management got high on their own supply (as Johnny Cochrane AOP would say). They believed we are good enough to win with Kai, Tross, and Saka coming back. They bet on Kai to be invincible, and have quickly lost that bet! We need 2 starting caliber forwards this Summer, including a world class striker. But the window has slammed shut on this season, completely avoidable mistake on our part.

"we shamelessly hand the league to an average Slot who is now made to look World class for winning it at his first attempt."
Man, 'shamelessly', relax will you.
The only thing Slot has done is have a fully fit squad, not get a load of bullshit red cards, and have the best player in the world at his disposal.
Fair play to him, but what Liverpool have done is nothing to do with us.

Off the top of my head, other reasons could be:
- Availability
- Suitability
- Price
- The market itself being a bit crap (January)
- Indecision
- Being overly-cautious
- Need the porridge to be 'just right' when all we need is something
- Losing the Sporting Director
- Longer-term priorities
- Being a bit crap at making our minds up
- Risk-taking/making-do
All of these are more obvious issues than a lack of ambition, which is too broad for me, and doesn't really make sense.

And by making such a bollocks of the summer transfer window and avoiding the winter one, they've left themselves with so much work to do next summer, and I don't have any faith in Josh, Ayto, et al. to get all that work done.

Season is now over, sorry, but that's the reality. Absolute disgrace we did not even attempt to replace Jesus in the January window. And as I've heard others say, William Saliba, and even Saka have to wonder if this club is where they want to spend the next 5 years, we simply do not take care of our players the way we should. As I tell my son, little mistakes add up to big consequences over time. I put this on the Kroenkes. They truly fucked us this year.

There's a legitimate argument to be had about the necessity or desirability of some of the signings, absolutely. But it's facile to propose that Arteta has not been backed.

"how can Tomi be out for 6 months, and now we discover he needs surgery... ?????"
It's not a discovery, it's the exhaustion of any non-surgical options

As the minister said ... how can Tomi be out for 6 months, and now we discover he needs surgery.https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/takehiro-tomiyasu/verletzungen/spieler/331560

2 things on injuries, an injury to one player, especially long term injuries to 1st teamers compounds the likelihood of injuries throughout the squad, simply as you have less option for rest and rotation.
but, how can Tomi be out for 6 months, and now we discover he needs surgery... ?????

Arse. WiB.
Morning all.
Part of Arteta's job is to manage up. As the football expert at the club he has to have strongly made the case for forward reinforcements. Unfortunately it seems he wasn't able to convince the powers that be.
Sorry for Tomi, great pro, bad luck.

It’s tragic for Tomiyasu, I do genuinely feel for him and admired his abilities as a player, his signing was the first sign for me that we had turned a cornet in defensive purchases after many errors. Sadly, that was only in terms of playing ability. He was soon replaced on the right by Ben White and after that the injuries seemed to stick. He deserves every penny he gets, and while it doesn’t compensate him or us for the playing time missed, there’s no doubt it’s easier to bear disappointment with a healthy bank balance. I hope the surgery goes well and he makes a miraculous recovery and gets to play for us again.

Ederson who supposedly was the best GK in the world a few years ago was at blame for all 3 goals.
If that's not downing tools, I don't know what is!

Well in Bruce.
That third goal was hilarious.
If one of our players got beat like that we would not hear the end of it.

As the biggest Tomiyasu fan here on the Arses, I just want to say that I really appreciate your appreciation (and defense) of Tomi in today's piece and previously too.
