It feels like we've thrown in the towel. Arrogance or negligence, I'm not sure which. So disappointing after the city result. This was our big chance to strengthen and chase down Liverpool, but no. The players we have are in danger of being overplayed and injured. Just watch Arteta rush back Saka.

Well in HFB.

Greetings baskers. I am still grinning from ear-to-ear from the massive Stay Humble win yesterday. What a victory that was. One of those games were everything, bar the early Havertz miss that went right for us. I'm also really glad that I have not wasted a single second tracking the January deadline day nonsense. It was pretty obvious to me that Arsenal were not going to bring in anyone. It is shocking that the club haven't brought in reinforcements, but we should be used to this by now under Arteta. Oh well GOYGs the Hale End lads to the rescue!

True, but there could be something else that has been overlooked regarding the Saudis.
Seeing that they have signed Duran and looking to buy not just ageing former pros but possibly younger talent and players in their prime I wonder if they are looking to create a super league in SA and UAE. If so we could well see a talent drain from some of the European leagues although I would expect the established big leagues to compete on a similar level albeit without the oil money.

It would of course make sense for them to do this having won the rights to host the 2034 World Cup.

Maybe it's not so much confidence as pressure. Some of Kai's misses in recent weeks have been in pressure situations where the games have been tight - the Newcastle one springs to mind with this.
I think he's simply not a natural striker so can overthink when there are too many options on hand. Kai does so many things exceptionally well but the natural finishing ability is the one deficit. But he does everything else so well that he creates an abundance of chances. Works so hard for the team.

I think this team does need an out and out striker to go to the next level. Kai will have to be a 9.5 utility man capable of rotating at striker and attacking mid.

They'll have a better idea than us, because they will have sight of a lot more information. Clearly, they can't sack him. There is a possibility of suspension without prejudice, but that's debatable, as there is the assumption of innocence until found guilty.
However, let's not confuse this either any obligations to extend hos contract once his (fixed term) contract expires. The club can use his injury record as a basis, but really don't need to give a reason.
The club could include a clause to terminate his contract with no liability on a number of conditions to protect itself, bit that would likely impact on the club's reputation and maybe it's commercial contracts. The club don't want a Msson Greenwood situation on its hands. In relation to football, if a player is unavailable during the season, time and effort will need to be made to source a replacement.

So in answer to the question, the club would be negligent not to assess the risk and determine if it's viable. I'd doubt v much they would state that because there would be no need.

The best part of the Havertz goal was that he didn't hide after the earlier miss. No-one would have criticised him had he just headed for the middle of the penalty area when Martinelli was running with the ball, but instead he ran outside GM11 and demanded the ball. Once he got it, there was only one thing on his mind. How many off-form strikers get their "missed chances" count down by never getting into a scoring position?

All I know is that Zubimendi, as good a ball circulator and tactical 6 as he might be, is nowhere near being a replacement for Partey. What Partey did yesterday was Vieira levels of ball possession and ball progression, with Petit levels of forward passing and vision. At his best right now, the best we’ve seen him. We are nowhere near as dynamic a team without him in central midfield. To replace him the manager and board are gonna have to pull the stops out. We took years to find a genuine, complete replacement for Vieira (Diaby, Fabregas and Cazorla all great but each lacked in some department). Partey-Rice is the best pivot since Vieira-Petit. From a purely footballing perspective, his departure will be a tough act to follow. I think there are still a few fans who don’t recognise just how good he is at his best. And yesterday he was at his best.

Mate, come on. In this case it’s really not for us to decide or comment on until there is an official public statement, for all sorts of legal reasons. Anyone concerned in any potential court case, accused and accuser, can be prejudiced by public comments and commenters can themselves face prosecution especially the editor of a blog that allows such discussions.

It’s a horrible situation I agree because social media sites can bypass accountability so they host all sorts of accusations and conjecture.

Sometimes that is genuinely in the public interest, especially regarding government and corporate corruption. But often it’s the law of the mob and accusations can prejudice cases.

It’s massively contentious, we all have to tread carefully. I think there’s already been too much said and we just have to hope it sorts itself out. We have to acknowledge that as football fans we might have our own prejudices that might get in the way of allowing this all to take its course regardless of our personal views.

Is that fair?

He's rattled that all these Manure managers have failed, and the only ones to challenge the C115h hegemony have been Liverpool and now us.

That must boil him inside. C115 is triumphing over his beloved Man Utd, and the only two clubs to rival them are the bitter rivals. He's in a lose, lose-lose scenario.

He was released and 5 weeks later he was told that all charges were dropped and that his previous partner and her mother had a lot of previous for making similar accusations.

He nearly killed himself with drink in those 5 weeks.

I'm not saying there is any danger of the same happening here but I'm very aware of the reasons why that principle exists.

Ethan’s goal was pure filth. You could see he knew what he wanted to do as soon as he came on. It had already played through his mind and all he needed was the ball. The way he takes that big switch down and caresses the ball in front of him for the set up. Look how perfectly the ball spins and settles in the grass. Then step forward and stroke it into the side netting with ease just like he envisioned it.

This kid is different. Superstar in the making.

Said it yesterday. He is back to his best. It’s a dilemma, When he’s fit and played in CM, he’s as good as anyone and a no brainier to extend his contract.

Negatives - Wasted as a RB; has had too many injuries; when playing while not fully fit he’s a big liability in the team; has off-field issues.

He will have a massive impact on which direction our season pans out.

He’s in final months of his contract so he’s free to sign a contract with any overseas club irrespective of the transfer window. At his age and still highest level of quality I don’t think he’d take a one year deal so it’s likely he’ll be off.

Assuming we let go of both Jorginho and Partey, we have the following players in midfield on our books - Rice, Merino, Nwaneri, Odegaard, Fabio Vieira, Lokonga, MLS (if we consider him as a midfielder), Havertz

Players we will let go from the list above - Vieira, Lokonga

Ignoring Havertz and MLS based on their current roles, that leaves us with 4 midfielders.

I like the look of him from the clips. But 0 goals in 14 games for Bayern this season is a risk. Let Man U take that risk if he’s set on going there.

But they're surely not interested in selling him now that they sold Duran, so I can't see that happening (even if he went on strike, which I highly doubt)

He’s not world class but he’s has the physical attributes, a proper target man and he’s an Arsenal fan which some say is irrelevant but which I think in this team will count for a lot. At the very least it needs to be him and if we get him I think we’re properly set up to chase down Liverpool.

I’ll be honest, when he squared up to Haaland in the away game at the end and Haaland said “who the fuck are you?” I thought it was a bit like a pup squaring up to a savage pit bull. But it’s clear now the spirit of this player is of a lion. I was so used to expecting Hale End players to be fragile and timid, I was totally blind-sided.

MLS uses his body in challenges brilliantly. Up against Haaland several times. He knows when to surge, he had that sense of the moment, that courage and self-belief. He’s only 18. Nwaneri 17. It’s just exceptional. Hale End is coming good.

Honestly, the balls on MLS. Blimey. Taking a yellow and laughing at Richarlison as he left the pitch in the NLD, slowly applauding the crowd as he wandered away. Taking the piss out of Haaland yesterday. What a revelation he has been! Acts like he's 25 and been playing top level for years, while Nwaneri is built like he is 25 and also utterly fearless.

Lovely the way Sterling, at the other end of the spectrum with experience and achievement in spades, but confidence at rock bottom, couldn't stop grinning while saying something to MLS and cuddling him as he replaced him, the waddled onto the pitch the way he does, still smiling happily.
malaisegooner @ 08:11 | Feb 3, 2025
Credit to Kai also for making amends for his terrible miss.

As for Nwaneri, what can I say? Dude goes for the throat every time and you all know by now how fucking much I love that! (stepping on throats) 😅

Pitch-perfect blog today for a pitch-perfect performance. I haven’t laughed so much at the banter moments in years. Gabriel snagging hippo’s shorts and saying go get my boot, just class. And MLS’s goal celebration was sublime. Tenacity and skill, and that finish. Every player, this was a landmark win. Sure, City may be on the way down and have been on the end of a few big defeats, but this was still their main rivals last year spanking the champions.

I’m glad for Havertz too, it was a nice overlapping run and curling finish. Over the next few hours we’ll find out if we can add one more piece to this excellent assembly of players. When we play with that urgency we showed after their equaliser, we’re irresistible. But we will stay humble, eh?

Morning all.

A great demolition of City yesterday, even if they're not at their peak right now, we smashed them in the second half. The guy who sits next to me was celebrating his birthday yesterday, what a day to do so (happy birthday again Gaz!).

I'm glad blogs mentioned the passivity after we scored, it's what we do, it must be under instruction and it's so maddening. We need to keep going when we get ahead.

Also, I am glad Havertz eventually got his goal, but he still needs to be replaced. We could power on to trophies with a proper number nine in the team.

What joy. I was happy to have to prepare dinner at kickoff, and so could slink into the vicinity of the TV only occasionally to see what the score was. I feared this game, as I always do. When the dinner was done and dishwasher filled, I watched the second half with the eldest. As the 3rd, 4th and 5th goals rained in, I celebrated with increasing vigour. She looked at me a little surprised, these were celebration heights / raging fist pumps / guttural roars of a level she is not used to. I explained to her, in softer, more nuanced words, how much pain these light blue cheating cunts have dished out to her father, and this is something called catharsis.

She looked away, bemused.
