So what, we're waiting for the next Pele? At some point you have to fill the massive striker-shaped hole at the pointy end of the team. It's the biggest need now and nothing seems to be being done.

The team selection last night was interesting, was Calafiori preferred over MLS because of Rice and/or Havertz's absence, to maintain the height of the team to combat Brentfords physicality ?
With reg...
I think it was because Arteta probably doesn't want to start MLS and Nwaneri together. Knowing he pretty much had to start Nwaneri, he didn't want another inexperienced player in there when he didn't have to.

We'll see where Nwaneri eventually settles. This stuff about strikers being out of our reach is rubbish though. If you look at the PL strikers who have as many or more goals as our leading scorer this...
I think a lot was more to do with need. If a Saka level player had come out of our academy as a defender or a midfielder, we wouldn't have spent as much money in those areas. But he came through as an attacker (actually Arteta put him there). Martinelli was also at the club when he arrived. I think it's right that Arsenal had greater need further back, as well as the market being complicated. I don't think Chris Wood or Strand Larsen would have been great signings, for example.

With regards to a players development, as you go up the levels, your 'special power' diminishes, so for instance, Ashley Cole was tremendously quick, however, wasn't 'tricky' enough to be a premier league left winger, but, had the brains and tenacity to be a footballing full back, luck is where preparation meets opportunity.....

We'll see where Nwaneri eventually settles. This stuff about strikers being out of our reach is rubbish though. If you look at the PL strikers who have as many or more goals as our leading scorer this season (Havertz) you find (just listing strikers here, not the likes of Salah and Palmer) Strand-Larsen, Duran, Delap, Watkins, Wissa, Jackson, Cunha, Wood, Isak and Haaland, all of whom were well within our ability to pay for when they moved to their respective clubs. Instead we bought full-backs and defensive midfielders. It was a choice.
