Last time we had three consecutive away wins at Totters was under George Graham. I was there for all three in 1987-1988 ;-) 1-0 the perfect scoreline for such a solid defensive performance. Three clean sheets out of four. COYGs!

I wonder if the Oasis reunion could go the way of Jane's Addiction... in dramatic fireworks. On stage Perry Farrell got pissy and went after Dave Navarro, then took a swing at a roadie who tried to de-escalate things before bassist Avery headlocked Farrell and apparently slugged him a few times. The show ended abruptly and the rest of the tour is toast.

88min ffs Sterling pass back to Nwaneri 90 minute Kulecevski cuts In Ahead of Partey from behind on a loose Havertz ball deep in spurs half no mistake in my book , Partey runs back not the fastest on field but he gets there (more minutes in his legs now Including internationals in 2 months than he had for a season ) .. I don’t know what the abuse is for I really don’t.. I have to upgraded his performance he was quiet compared to earlier games on the ball but way way more defensive work marking, heading going in deep to cover spaces in our defence. And Jorginho criticisism way overblown as well .. Spurs really had no chances after the first 10 ..minutes
lettraggad @ 15:31 | Sep 16, 2024
Biggest mistake so far Ben white who hits a weak pass straight to Tottenham when Arsenal are in possession.
HT
Totts have gotten behind Jorginho twice no major mistakes though .
Partey has one mistaken clearance of a volley 62nd minute his first mistake ball falls in johnSons path Gabriel Blocks shot .. Partey does well to head away the in swinging cross to Trossard who feeds Havertz.. pass to Saka … Corner .
63 minute Goooal by Big King Gab.
79 minute Trossard and Martinelli off. No mistakes by Arsenal defence after goal.
Tot pressure 81 minute Partey doesn’t manage to clear cross looks like he is taking it down or passing when he should have hoofed it Gabriel clears ball decisively before Solanke . No easy but This is a mistake that could have been risky statistically probably not a mistake as ball doesn’t go to an opponent..not bigger than whites mistake in first half though.

I'm already looking forward to at least one January signing, namely someone with younger legs to replace Jorginho (with an eye on next season). *I know THIS season has barely started but still*

A fit Merino and Rice pairing would limit Partey's involvement anyway, so hopefully no issue there moving forward. Spend BIG on that striker in the summer.

Looked on the website and apparently Bolton applications are 100% successful and they are now offering friends and family applications for up to four people because they couldn’t sell them all. So I will expect news eventually about the seats.
It would be nice if those that entered the original ballot for a game that will be mainly for the back up team were given some sort of priority in the next league ballot entered

After reading your player ratings yesterday, I went back and re-watched the entire game at 2x because I was sure I saw a completely different game.

That Partey pass you mention leading to the Kulusevski shot, was actually a Kai pass under-hit and misplaced to Partey... Partey didn't even touch the ball. 100% no blame on Partey for that.

In the blog you mention another careless touch in our box, which is actually him intercepting a cross that he's stretching for, as he sees it late because Jogi is in the way..

As I said in my reply to the ratings, there is subjectivity and untruth.

BTW I love you blogs, please don't take this as anything other than me pointing out what I believe is a genuine mistake.

I just feel there's a consensus bias against Party and ever since I noticed it I see it everywhere. I know there is bias in favour of White, I'm guilty of it too. We're only human.
arseblog1 @ 11:13 | Sep 16, 2024
I accept I forgot the White mistake (because it's rare), but people need to look at how careless Partey was yesterday, and how potentially costly it might have been.

Even late on he misplaced a simple pass high up the pitch, 10 seconds later Kulusevski had a shot from distance that wasn't far away.

The thing with Partey is that this carelessness was not part of his game before the injury, and it's now present in almost every performance since his return.

I hope he improves, but he worries me a lot.

Hey NB, I'm not having a go at Blogs or anyone as such. He's went to the effort of adding comments to News and the arses here so we can chime in and that's all I'm doing. I don't want it to come across as for or against, they're all Arsenal players and I'm behind them all. I just don't think some people share that same position.

You said "Blogs comment about midfield was fair" - all I'm saying is I don't think he is being fair. If he was talking about the season as a whole sure, but speaking on yesterdays game specifically, highlighting the midfielders' 1 or 2 minor mistakes and also marking them down/highlighting their mistakes specifically in the player ratings, while completely omitting Whites far more high profile mistake is not 'fair'.

Blogs has his favourites of course, we all do but I believe he's more than capable of being a bit more objective with our own players than he was on yesterday's performance.

It's always been a subjective rule, before they started messing with it a few years ago it was only handball if it was intentional. How do you know a player's intent? Can you read their mind? So it's a difficult one unless you give any touch on the arm and then you're in the realm of players kicking the ball at opponent's arms to win a decision. There's no really good way of settling the handball rule unambiguously.

Not you NB but the large collective and it’s no problem criticising a player but criticising players who are adding more net than other players who are not criticised or is weird and when so many do it it’s very very strange . I believe you have been OT with Martinelli as we have discussed.. Kid has everything but end product right now so he is also a net positive defender fear him regardless of his current lack of end product and he use to have it so I understand why he starts we want this version of him +goals and he could be one confidence goal away from becoming that guy.. He dribbles pass the totts midfield and defence at near every attempt.

The thing about accidental handball leading directly to a goal or goalscoring chance is explicitly specified in the laws, so at least that one is easy to adjudicate. The incident yesterday is more subjective, but that's never being given.

Let's all stand together and not argue about this. We won, which given the circumstances was a minor miracle. Everybody hates us and we don't care, taking a leaf out of Leeds history - til they don't hate us. My Porto supporting neighbour had told me prior to the match that we'd win - I didn't believe him - as the tiny Totts tend to lose games at the start of the season then win more at the end. His best mate is Dier (no, really) who got out whilst he could. Well,he called this one right.

The rule is very subjective indeed. The IFAB love messing about with the handball rules every season.

If I was reffing that game, I would say his arm is in a natural position for the situation and the ball is played by the goalkeeper so close to him that he has no time to get his arm out of the way. No handball offence.

"All we hear about is what Partey did or didn't do". I don't think that's true at all. He's been getting stick because he has been struggling with his pace and has been giving the ball away more than he used to. Inevitably that draws attention, as Martinelli's lack of end product has. As I said, the either/or attitude on both "sides" is what creates needless arguments. I want Partey fit and back to his best. He's a unique player, strength and finesse. But he does lack pace and hopefully Rice can cover this weekend (and in Italy which will be tougher than some realise).

Blogs comment about midfield was fair, but others have drawn more attention to it, making it a thing now in the comments. There's no real agenda against Partey, at least not as a player. He has exceptional qualities and yes he was a big part pf yesterday's win as was Jorginho who ran himself ragged, cramped up and everything, after being on the bench for ages. These two pushed themselves to the limit, but we do need Rice back.

I can hardly read here anymore I was told it was me that I’m a lunatic .for opposing the collective narrative , there is definite bias regarding Partey the thing with bias is you make up your mind about certain people and that’s all you see .. Discord contains same abuse.. Their
Minds are made up he is judged by his
Mistakes but other’s mistakes are brushed away in a flurry of excuses. Partey is definitely not the force he once was and perhaps I’m bias regarding him simply because I don’t dislike him or any of our players.Im certain in my stand because I rewatch games I sometimes count positive actions passes tackles (a bit nerdy but we all get our fun somehow and this is how I get hard , no blue pills needed). Sinply put the comments and reporting on him is , not factual.

But all we hear about is what Partey did or didn't do. He was excellent defensively, made several tackles and won virtually all his duels. Gabriel stepped in when he made that poor clearance.

Support the team, and all players in it.

There was one run where it did look like he was in slow motion getting back. He does give the ball away a little more. His strength and intelligence in passing is still top notch. I do wish you didn't have to do what so many do in sport and politics and set it up as an either/or. If we had Jorginho and Partey against City we'd be overrun. Rice should be able to cover Partey's lack of pace and occasional lapses in concentration. But yeah, others misplace passes and get less stick. But it's swings and roundabouts. Try to frame it as a personal vendetta against Partey just looks very odd to me. Why do that?

Everyone was laying in to TP for being a liability running towards his goal, then it was his lapses in possession. He puts in a performance like that, in a tough game and none of those concerns play out, winning 7/7 duels, where only Saliba had better passing and you highlight an intercepted cross that fell to their player and a mistimed clearance that came off his studs.
benzed @ 09:13 | Sep 16, 2024
Partey does have a couple of moments a game now where he is indecisive and dawdles in dangerous areas, but overall I thought the pair of them contributed to a solid defensive structure and performance. A 6 & 5 in the player ratings felt more on expectation than reality. White had an average first half, but as we all love him he got a bit of a pass.

With this new elongated CL format I'm not especially concerned how the Atalanta game goes, all eggs in the basket of Fuck The 115, I say.

Honestly, think you're being really harsh on the central midfielders. Spurs play very narrow and counter press midfield intensely and we had one moment where Jorgi lost the ball in that area. Given that everyone was so worried about the midfield in the lead up to the game, I think they comfortably exceeded our expectations. Nobody ran off the back of them, no fouls, no dangerous misplaced passes...

So for you to highlight a couple of minor errors from them without so much as mentioning White's pass that gave them their best chance of the game, is really harsh in my opinion.

Timber, what to say? Arteta had it right, his first full 90 minutes and he gave his all. The one recovery tackle close to the box, the run back and the block timed to perfection. And the yellow, it was of course harsh, and yeah Pedro made the most of it, but there was a slight scrape on his shin as Timber controlled the ball. No doubt Pedro exaggerated but I loved the way Timber dealt with Vicario without losing it. It's like he's been part of this team from the start.
