He pounded on and on about the Jesus one a few games ago, how it shouldn't have been a penalty because the opponent got the ball first.... 🤨 Well, yeah, but he also took out Jesus who otherwise would've had the ball at his feet in a great scoring position. Obvious penalty, all day long.

I think it's just that he simply tries too hard to appear not biased in his former club's favour so goes too far in the other direction (unlike most others, like Neville and Carragher, who fully embrace their bias).

Regarding what he said.... knowing VAR officials, i may not like it but he has a point. I think part of the reason the penalty wasn't given is that Kulu takes a few extra steps and by the time he does go down it's an unnatural fall. If he'd gone down immediately it might've been given. I'm not saying it should've been given, but it probably would've been.

Slightly off topic but for those in the US - what on earth is wrong with Lee Dixon? I was rewatching the match but even with fast wording to the goals, every single time I heard him speak, he was talking about how Kulu… should have gone down, how it was a pivotal moment, why didn’t VAR have a look, etc.. Goodness me! Did we do something to him? I wanted to hear the sounds in the stadium so I couldn’t mute him. It was terrible.

I used to love the Adidas logo as a kid, I used to dream of Arsenal having the adidas stripes and would draw that as a kit. This was in the 70s early 80s. So when Adidas became the first change from Umbro I was well happy, it felt destined. Tbh now it doesn't feel like the best kit even historically. I think our Nike years are historically and aesthetically our best years and if we ever get back that sponsor, we will really get some special retro-modern reimaginings. Until then, we just have to make do with these brasher, wackier designs with the overbearing feel that Adidas always gives with their stripes, where Nike is always a bit minimal with the swish and style.

The design of the "sweat marks" looks like the design of that training kit they've been wearing before games, which looks like some Andy Warhol scribble. The green and red feels a bit like its hinting at the Rasta vibe. It all feels as if the marketing team are just throwing ideas together and getting AI to come up with the design. It's like the "concept" of the Islington border on the yellow-glo kit, it looks nothing like the border, but the concept is just the starting point, then the designers take loads of mind-altering drugs and come up with this. Can't anyone just design something from their own heart, rather than keep mining our history in some fake contrived way which just tries too hard? I guess not!

This year’s away is atrocious, but at least it can sort of claim to be an Arsenal colour.
What I have seen, it’s not that it’s ugly, or not, or, that I like it, or not, it’s just a further illustration that kit manufacturer’s positions are : stick a cannon on it and people will buy it for 100 quid no problem.
It’s just even less of an Arsenal kit that any Arsenal kit that has ever been released.

One can appreciate the years of hard work building up to this keystone sponsorship that is TOTALLY, 100% legit.

I can personally assure everyone that there is nothing to worry about Companies House records showing Dave's Tiles was created 2 weeks ago and with board members comprising of  Sheikh M abd Mansour. Khaldoon Al Mubarak and Khadem Al Qubaisi. Everyone knows that Dave is an outgoing guy and met the Sheikh and Khadem Al Qubaisi at his local Poundland doing his weekly shop.

As for concerns that Dave's Tiles has a registered office at Al Muhairy Center, Office Tower, 9th Floor, Sheikh Zayed the 1st Street, P.O. Box 7528 Abu Dhabi, what can I say? This shows what an enterprising guy he is.

Maybe I am being cynical but often seems to me like football fans moral indignation is regulated to the performance of their team. The Geordies as their season fizzles out in mediocrity are now concerned with sports-washing and women rights in the middle east. "Free Selma"- read the placards. Maybe they should read "Free Selma or win us a Premier League title with an extravagantly assembled squad like we imagined-but one or the other." One dyslexic, corpulent Magpie was in support only because he believed the campaign was for Free Meals.
Over the years Man United fans seem to want the Glazers in or out depending on the weather of their team's performance. Like some kind of slo-motion Mancunian/American hokey-cokey.
Equally Sp*rs fans and Levy.
One can only imagine the sanctimony of the City fans if it were one of their neighbours or rivals benefitting from the riches of an oppressive regime. Noel Gallagher's rant would last the entire season-you could wind him up like a clockwork mouse in August and let him uncoil until May. The bare-faced brazenness of maintaining an air of moral superiority , the gall of all those asterisks.
We are not without stain. There will be a time when people look back to a time when a government were attempting to extradite children and political refugees to an unstable country, still coming to terms with internal genocide and division and remember that Arsenal had Visit Rwanda on sleeves and shake their heads in disbelief. Even in this age of PR trumping ethics- forget about the Opta Index - it's about as low as you can go in the optics index.

Jamie Vardy's anothet who you just couldn't imagine fitting into this Arsenal team. Meanwhile Rice walks into this club, in a sharp traditional suit, oozing class, dignity and respect for his surroundings, and you just think, ok, these guys in the club get it and the player fits. And for all my criticisms, Havertz also fits. He's humble but despite a slow build to his confidence he isn't meek. There was a shove on someone by the touchline at the end of the first. It was very odd, but I really didn't feel worried that we would drop points yesterday after our first goal and up to and beyond Spuds' second goal. I was supremely confident, maybe to a dusional level, but I could just point to so many facts: we hadn't. conceded in over 10 hours if away games, we have conceded the fewest goals in the Premier League and we have a team that has shown huge resilience.

Yes, the usual level of play wasn't there yesterday and dropped further in the second half, but this team has played 5 times whilst the Spuds team have been sitting at home playing join-the-dots and trying to keep the crayon within the lines oin the Bumper Picture Book of Farmyard Animals.

Raya and Rice showed a lack of concentration rather than a lack of quality. If we're being honest, the same ceacks showed against Chelsea, but they were unable to capitalise. I think we have a tremendous group of players who have shown huge reserves of physical and mental resilience. I'm hoping a few days Rn'R should fix any lingering issues.

As for Spuds. This is their best team in a long time, playing after 15 days rest against our tired team .....and they couldn't make it count.

But it seems the focus is to find fault with him. I say again I can't understand, even with his rustiness, how anyone could want Jorginho over him. I think he came back a couple of games too late. We would have had the Villa and Bayern games sealed with his creative play. Anyway, it's ok. He's made mistakes and fans have a right to criticise whoever they think worthy of criticism. No issue really. My amusement is how he must be highlighted yet in a span of 90 mins, mistakes are made everywhere across the pitch. Some even lead to goals. Its a good place to be though, that the team today works hard for each other, so lots of errors are seldom detriemental.

Madonna! Mary Mother Of God.
Crazy, "Gamatwo'arfes" obviously.
A schizophrenic match perhaps unsurprisingly, given we had got into the groove against Chelsea but were knackered. Conversely Sp*rs were rusty but fully rested.
Tott*enham spent the first 15 playing like less than beautiful strangers. Overall, we were the better team but maybe rode some fortune and had to thank a lucky star. James Maddy, the material boy, kept falling over like he had sensory overload from the LV rucksack.
The disallowed goal for offside was borderline but correct. A game of moments.
First 45 Havertz expressed himself. Saka take a bow. Open game where laxity was sometimes seemingly in vogue.
David's error gave them a raya light- and allowed them back into the game. But to his credit he didn't get hung up on it. Gifted it to Romero-but then got his chin up-don't cry for me Argentina. No recriminations from teammates- he was sorry but atoned with his presence in the box. Glad Declan gave the unspeakable Sp*rs fans back a bit of Queen's English. At the crunch managed to keep it together and defended deeper and deeper.
Last 4 minutes seemed to last forever-time frozen- final whistle like a prayer had been answered. Time to celebrate. Cherish it. Raya centre of sheer jubilation no need for players to justify their love.
No - "Arsenal Sp*rsier than Sp*rs" headlines to contend with. Their unpleasant fans can eff off to the go-kart track or ferris wheel-and can look back at the new stadium with pride if not their football sides and think it used to be our playground.
After that we need a holiday- which we are getting in two ways- a 5 day break before Bournemouth- and of course St. Totts. Cue the music.

Spurs had more divers today than the Olympic team going to Paris. I can't believe no of them weren't booked. It demonstrated how desperate a team and the lengths they go to. I thought the Ref overall had a decent game when he let things flow but needed to show some cards. No sure how VAR deemed Rice to have committed a penalty when he was clearly focused on the ball and Davis only had eyes for a penalty. Good that Rice manager to kick his balls for good. Great win!!

Not sure if that's the right/normal thing to do, but the weather is decent for once, and I want to check the new showers at work they must be better than the old ones.
We won! you can analyse the shite out of it, but as blogs correctly put out, at this stage, it doesn't really matter that much. Arteta and his team will address/highlights the areas of improvement.

It's the nonchalant way he does it and the fact he just ignores the reactions with a grin. Opposing players are left rattled and confused. But now it's becoming a thing teams will be more prepared. But he'll find another way to wind them up. That's what's so cool about it. It's the way he does it that's unique.

There was one early in the first half where Gabriel passed to Partey under pressure. I think he dropped him in it a bit but it was slack from Partey he dithered a bit. But defensively he was also strong in key moments and obviously what he gives in ball progression is invaluable. If I decide a player's the best in their position I can be upset about their mistakes but if I decide a player's not good enough any mistake is magnified. We all have our favourites and our scapegoats. It's been a looooong time since I could look at a first 11 and like practically every player. The tension at the end was eased by seeing so many giants and fierce competitors battling to preserve the win. Let's keep that going.

Watched the Last Samurai again last night as housemate hadn't seen it. The samurai phrase "too many minds" to describe a warrior who is not focused is a perfect description of what seems to happen to Raya. He was caught thinking of more than one option as the opposition player is bearing in. He stumbles in his execution. Left-footed, already a no-no option over a player, all because he is pondering rather than already have his mind made up.

This can be ironed out. I think he's been good this season and mentally to come back from that howler shows character..I still think we can improve that position, maybe a young discovery who can push him for his place with the money we get for Ramsdale. It's sad for Aaron who was such an important part of this team's resurgent character and competitiveness. But that's the price of top level football.

Like Roy keane said yesterday, its because of bored players.
That pass to gabriel was too easy. Not exciting enough.
You know what, there were instances in the first half when passes were played with the defenense and any small slip would have given the ball away. At times the spurs player has given him Raya too much respect and not closed him down.

The error from Raya, is unfortunately the 'tax' you have to pay if you want to play out from the back, our 1st goal came about from a dreadful pass from Vicario that we then won the ball back off, and got the corner from.
Raya's caught in 2 minds, he probably wants to play it long, then sees Partey in space, second guesses himself and stubs it....Clarity of thought is imperative at this level.
But, and i'm glad you mentioned it Mr Blogs, his performance after was immaculate, and his handling throughout was flawless.
As for the Rice penalty, just a bit tired, although i'm looking forward to the explanation of the difference to that one and Jesus's at Villa Park ?
And finally, has anyone seen James Maddison ? last spotted diving to win a FK in the 25th minute....
thecar2n @ 07:51 | Apr 29, 2024
I get what Blogs is tryna say... In the Chavs game Partey calls for and receives the ball from Raya in a congested area of the pitch. He can't turn and plays a short pass to Saliba who is now under more pressure and takes another touch before shanking it. Commentary said it was poor from Saliba but that passage of play was unnecessary and initiated by Partey.

Yes, it's 100% Raya's mistake. Which is why it's irrelevant what Partey is doing. How can you blame a player for offering himself? Sounds like you have an axe to grind against Partey ;) I've never heard of a player being criticised for offering himself as an option for the pass. Come on, he made a couple of other errors, but asking for the ball isn't an error. The responsibility is always with the player with the ball to make that decision. And as we both agree, that decision and execution was poor.

Partey can't receive that ball, plenty of Spurs players around him. Raya can see the whole field, that was the time to put your foot through it. I'm not sure about Raya being great after that, the Romero header over the bar, Raya was flying through the air behind him and getting nowhere near. He needs to develop a big game/club mentality, he looked a bit rattled to me late on yesterday.

As others have said, Partey's choice, timing and execution of pass opens up so many options for the forward players. He'll be a big factor in any success in our next three games. And I also think we need a replacement there who can defend better and pass with equal efficiency and creativity.

I believe this was our 9th game in about 4 weeks (28-29 days) so fatigue was definitely an issue.

One weakness, to my untrained eyes, of our defensive unit (GK included) is playing through press. We seem to panic unnecessarily when facing a high press and lose control of the proceedings.
